RX-8 MRX Module Interface
RX-8 MRX Module Interface

Design

The RX-8 is an extremely small 8-channel receiver interface for your bag or cart. Accepting audio from up to 8 separate transmitters, the RX-8 contains a built-in MicPlexer with antenna distribution and front-end filter for eliminating interference from unwanted RF. It is the smallest 8-channel radio mic receiver system in the world!

An optional Dante interface with Power over Ethernet (PoE) facilitates remote location and control.

Connectivity

RX-8 can output 8 channels of analog or AES digital audio at 0 dB line-level on the DB25 connector. The RS422 connector pairs with a TRXCL4 or IFB300 to share the ZaxNet remote control commands. It has two SMA RF loop throughs for additional antenna distribution.

Dante

When the RX-8 is remoted on set you can send up to 16 channels of audio over Dante back to the sound cart, 8 originating from the RX-8 itself and 8 more via 4 AES pairs connected to the DB25.

When the RX-8 is remoted on set there is the option to send 4 channels of balanced analog audio from the sound cart to the set via Dante. The audio can be used for IFB, VOG, or monitoring. One of the audio channels can optionally be used to send timecode to the set. The timecode will then be output on the BNC connector on the RX-8 and can be used to jam slates or connect to a ZaxNet transmitter on set.

CHANNEL COUNT

The RX-8 receives up to eight channels of audio from eight separate transmitters when loaded with 2 x MRX414 slot-in receiver modules.

Powerful Reception

The RX-8 has a front-end filter, so you can receive on any frequency in any block from 20 through 26 (512-698MHz) with impressive range. Here’s how that works – the filter allows signals within the 35 MHz tunable window into the receiver while blocking the interfering high-level signals outside this window. We let the good stuff in (your radio mic transmitters) and we keep the bad stuff out (walkie-talkies, the follow focus, vampires, etc.). Think of it like the bouncer outside a nightclub.

RF Amplification

The RX-8’s built-in MicPlexer gives you an additional 3dB of RF amplification and antenna distribution for the two internal MRX slot-in receiver modules and additional receiver channels connected to the RF output connectors of the RX-8.

The MRX214 and MRX414 modules are hot-swappable and can be added or removed in any combination at any time, making the RX-8 highly flexible for when receiver requirements can change on a daily basis.

Encryption and compatibility

The RX-8 receives a 100% digital signal that is fully encrypted and is compatible with all Zaxcom modulations and transmitters.

Intuitive User Interface

Four OLED displays contain the menus for each receiver pair and tactile pushbuttons make receiver selection and toggling through menus a breeze. The built-in frequency scanner and Auto-Pick software eliminates the guesswork and can coordinate and choose the best frequencies with a push of a button.

Power

The RX-8 is powered via a standard 12V Hirose connector.
With Dante, the RX-8 can be powered via the 12v input or remotely via power over ethernet (PoE). There’s also a 12v power output that supplies up to 1 amp for external receivers and transmitters when receiving PoE.

The 12V  power Hirose input is a backup for the POE connection with seamless switching in the case of a PoE power issue.

Advanced Features

The RX-8’s built-in frequency scanner and Auto-Pick software can scan the RF spectrum and choose the best receiver frequencies. Using ZaxNet™, when paired with an IFB300 or TRXCL4, the RX-8 can re-freq transmitters to match it with just the touch of a button. This combo also lets you make quick and easy transmitter gain adjustments.

The groundbreaking RX-8 with Dante opens new frontiers of remote receiver control that has only been dreamt of in the past.
