WASHINGTON, D.C. — June 11, 2026 — Zaxcom, Inc., a longtime innovator in professional audio equipment, announced today a favorable decision from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). In a unanimous 3-0 Final Written Decision, the Board rejected a patent challenge brought by RØDE Microphones, LLC and Freedman Electronics Pty Ltd. concerning Zaxcom’s U.S. Patent Nos. 7,711,443 and 10,276,207.

The decision represents the latest development in a series of PTAB proceedings involving Zaxcom’s intellectual property portfolio. In this matter, RØDE Microphones, LLC and Freedman Electronics Pty Ltd. were represented by Dechert LLP, while Zaxcom was represented by Rita C. Chipperson of Chipperson Law Group, P.C.

The June 2026 decision follows earlier favorable outcomes for Zaxcom before the PTAB, including a 2025 decision declining to institute a challenge to U.S. Patent No. 12,051,444 and a separate ruling involving U.S. Patent No. 7,929,902, in which the Board determined the petition was time-barred under 35 U.S.C. § 315(b).

“We are pleased with the Board’s decision and grateful for the thoughtful consideration given to the technical details of these innovations,” said Glenn Sanders, President of Zaxcom. “For many years, our focus has been on solving real-world challenges for audio professionals. We believe protecting the technologies we create helps ensure continued innovation for the people who rely on them every day.”

The PTAB’s decision relates to Zaxcom’s patented “backup recording” technology, which combines wireless transmission, local wearable recording, and timecode synchronization to help address audio dropouts in professional production environments.

In its decision, the Board noted evidence of industry recognition surrounding the technology, including honors Zaxcom inventors received for their contributions to professional production sound. Zaxcom’s innovations have been recognized with both a Technical Achievement Academy Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.

Zaxcom remains committed to advancing reliable, professional-grade tools for film, television, and broadcast production while supporting the creative professionals who depend on them.
