POMPTON PLAINS, N.J. — April 6, 2025 — Zaxcom is excited to announce the all new VTX1, the next evolution in IFB audio transmission. The VTX1 is a VHF IFB audio transmitter that combines two types of frequency bands and enhanced features including encrypted audio, timecode, internal recording, and remote capabilities all in one device, making it the most versatile IFB system for any project or gig.
VTX1 has been engineered to transmit both VHF and 2.4 GHz frequency bands for ultimate performance. The VHF turning range is 192-217 MHz with a 25 kHz RF frequency step. VHF offers two user-selectable operating modes: FM analog and a fully encrypted 100% digital modulation mode. No matter which mode, VTX1 transmits high quality audio to VHF compatible devices including the Zaxcom VRX1.
With its 2.4 GHz frequency band, VTX1 features ZaxNet giving users the ability to send IFB audio, timecode, metadata, and remote control Zaxcom compatible transmitters and receivers. Through ZaxNet, remote adjustments can be made to the frequency, pre-amp gain, transmitter output power, and put the unit in record, playback, or stop modes – eliminating the need to approach the talent to adjust the device. Better yet, ZaxNet transmits over a single 2.4 GHz RF channel which can be used license-free in almost any country.
VTX1 is compatible with Comtek and other devices in the 192-217 MHz frequency range when operating in VHF FM analog mode. Additionally, VTX1 is compatible with the Zaxcom VRX1 receiver in VHF FM analog or digital modulation modes. The combination of a VTX1 and VRX1 offers unparalleled performance in terms of audio quality, signal reliability, dropout resistance, backward FM compatibility, and overall value. To achieve this, Zaxcom developed an entirely new digital modulation and codec specifically designed for the needs of the VHF IFB system.
Additionally, both the VHF digital modulation mode and 2.4 GHz audio is fully encrypted, keeping transmissions private and secure. Audio can also be simultaneously transmitted and internally recorded to a memory card that includes timecode. A microSD card slot allows audio to be recorded directly onto the instantly removable card as a backup or reference for post. Files are recorded using MARF (Mobile Audio Recording Format), a lossless fault-tolerant recording system that eliminates file corruption common to recordings caused by power loss or early card removal.
A TA5 audio input offers a balanced stereo line level or sample rate conversion AES, while a BNC connector provides a timecode input. Maximum RF power output is 50 mW in either VHF operating modes and 2.4 GHz. VTX1 can be powered externally via Hirose connector and accepts 8 to 18 VDC @ 180 mA.
The Zaxcom VTX1 is available now. Contact your local authorized dealer for pricing.
